Goldilocks and the Three Bears

While the Three Bears take a walk until their porridge cools, a little girl called Goldilocks walks into their house and tries their porridge, chairs and beds. The Bears come home, find her asleep in the Little Wee Bear’s bed, and she jumps out of the window and runs home.

Scene 1: Three Bears in the Wood

Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Once upon a time, three Bears lived together in a little house in the wood. There was a Great Big Bear, a Middle-sized Bear, and a Little Wee Bear. Each had a bowl for porridge, a chair to sit in, and a bed to sleep in. One morning, they poured out their porridge, and went for a walk in the wood while it cooled.

Scene 2: A Peep through the Keyhole

While they were away, a little girl called Goldilocks came by. She looked in at the window, and then she peeped in at the keyhole. Seeing nobody there, she lifted the latch and went in.

Scene 3: Just Right

On the table stood three bowls of porridge. The Great Big Bear’s porridge was too hot. The Middle-sized Bear’s porridge was too cold. But the Little Wee Bear’s porridge was neither too hot nor too cold, but just right. And she ate it all up!

Scene 4: Plump upon the Ground

Then she sat in the Great Big Bear’s chair, but it was too hard. The Middle-sized Bear’s chair was too soft. The Little Wee Bear’s chair was just right. But she sat in it till the bottom came out, and down she came, plump upon the ground!

Scene 5: Fast Asleep

Then Goldilocks went upstairs to the bedroom. The Great Big Bear’s bed was too high at the head. The Middle-sized Bear’s bed was too high at the foot. But the Little Wee Bear’s bed was just right. She covered herself up, and fell fast asleep.

Scene 6: Somebody Has Been at My Porridge!

Soon the Three Bears came home to breakfast. The Great Big Bear saw his spoon standing in his bowl. He said, in his great, rough, gruff voice: “Somebody has been at my porridge!” The Middle-sized Bear said, in his middle-sized voice: “Somebody has been at my porridge!” Then the Little Wee Bear looked at his bowl, and it was empty! He cried, in his little wee voice: “Somebody has been at my porridge, and has eaten it all up!”

Scene 7: Somebody Has Been Sitting in My Chair!

Then the Bears looked at their chairs. The Great Big Bear growled: “Somebody has been sitting in my chair!” The Middle-sized Bear said: “Somebody has been sitting in my chair!” And the Little Wee Bear cried: “Somebody has been sitting in my chair, and has sat the bottom out of it!”

Scene 8: And Here She Is!

So the Three Bears went upstairs. The Great Big Bear said: “Somebody has been lying in my bed!” The Middle-sized Bear said: “Somebody has been lying in my bed!” And the Little Wee Bear cried: “Somebody has been lying in my bed, and here she is!” His little voice was so sharp and so shrill that it woke Goldilocks at once. She tumbled out of bed, and jumped out of the open window. Then she ran home to her mother, as fast as ever she could. Wait to be asked in, and never take what is not yours.

Moral: Wait to be asked in, and never take what is not yours.
